What is BAT?

Behavior Adjustment Training (BAT) helps dogs build confidence and social skills through safe, low-stress interactions. This natural method is especially effective when triggers for fear, frustration, or aggression involve people or other dogs.

BAT gives dogs a sense of freedom while keeping safety in the caregiver’s control. Traditionally practiced in open, quiet spaces, BAT encourages calm observation and gradual confidence-building.

BAT for City Dogs & Busy Areas

Grisha Stewart, founder of BAT, invited certified BAT instructor Viviane Arzoumanian (CBATI-KSA) to teach this webinar on adapting BAT to urban life.

In crowded cities like New York or São Paulo, finding wide-open, quiet spaces for traditional BAT can be impossible. Since becoming a CBATI in 2013, Viviane has developed an urban version of BAT that makes this powerful tool accessible to dog guardians everywhere.

You’ll learn how to:

  • Adapt BAT for short moments (30 seconds, 1 minute, 5 minutes) in busy environments

  • Blend “wandering BAT” with other supportive strategies

  • Recognize and respond to your dog’s needs in real time

The webinar includes video demonstrations, practical tips, and a Q&A session, offering actionable guidance for dogs struggling with reactivity, fear, or frustration.

  • Recorded live on December 15, 2020

  • Earns 2.5 CEUs for trainers

This city dog BAT webinar was EXCELLENT and exactly what I hoped for! I came away with great techniques to try and I just really enjoyed seeing the BAT techniques in use and being modified for busy and unpredictable environments. This is the kind of real world training that I can use with all my clients!

Amazing experience and brilliant case reviews. So motivated by this to use in urban areas not just in the fields. Very confidence building for professionals.

Just watched the Urban BAT webinar and found it very motivating. I’m not a dog trainer and I realize that reducing dog reactivity in my dog is going to be a long, probably bumpy process, especially given that my dog’s initial reactive distance is on the order of football field on some days. That said, Viviane, Grisha and the rest of the team put on an excellent training session. I found the question and answer session especially helpful, it offered some terrific guidance on specific situations and gave me a shot of confidence going into my first BAT experiences with my dog. Thanks guys.
